Private commissions axed
28/09/08
To cut a long story short I simply wasn't getting enough money coming in from the hell that was nightclub photography, alongside private commissions, so I made the decision to temporarily axe Angelfish Photographic in the commercial sense.I now have a rather sexy but kind of expensive car to maintain, and also the small matter of a 3-bedroom house to run, so I am now working full-time for Pixi-Foto - "the largest child portraiture in the world outside of the US". Or something like that.
I basically photograph babies/children/families, assist another photographer doing so, or act as sales person when it comes to them collecting the images.
I'm working Tuesday-Saturday and therefore obviously don't have much free time. After a week at work if I'm going be picking up the camera I want it to be something refreshing and fun - a subject I enjoy.
Money now isn't a problem and I do enough commercial shots through the week so I have made the decision to stop taking private commercials for this kind of work.
I am now only doing unpaid work and just spending my time doing work I enjoy, in order to expand and improve on my portfolio, broaden my knowledge and skills (I am researching and trying out new lighting techniques and post-production procedures all the time), and also to gain more exposure.
This means that yes I will be turning down paid work of baby/child/family portraits but it does mean that anyone wanting car photography, pet photography, band photography etc etc etc can get a cd of images for FREE (if I am available and I feel it would benefit my portfolio).
It's been sods law that as soon as I've started a full-time job I've started getting ALOT of interest from people. Both private commissions and from magazines.
I am having a 4-page feature in DSLR-User soon (should be the next issue) and theres also some other publications that I can't really comment on right now but that I am rather excited about.
